Twelve years ago, I was making breakfast in the Lower East Side when I heard a massive crash that sounded like thunder. I looked out the window and saw only a clear blue Tuesday morning, unaware everything had changed.

Am I a pessimist if every year on 9/11, I think of this inspirational quote? "Never doubt a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

I was watching the Today Show getting ready for work and saw the two impacts on tv. Then went to the office, where everyone crowded into the conference room, transfixed with horror as the towers fell. Not much work done that day.
Concerning your quote, I'd say those fanatics may have been thoughtful, but their thoughts were of constant conflict, not any thoughts of positive outcomes for Islam. They did change the world, but not for the better.
