Carrie in Commie Country

My friends Chad and Scott are in Moscow. Russia is ridiculously expensive, and yet somehow poor. Chad and Scott paid $45 for a Heineken beer, and then 45 cents for the subway.

They happened to be there at the same time gay rights activist Nikolai Alexeyev (one of the most courageous people on the planet) planned to defy authorities again and hold a banned Gay Pride march.

If I could've afforded a ticket, I meant to go. Chad and Scott were on the lookout for the march, but couldn't find it. It's no wonder. According to Towleroad, it consisted of only about 25 people who were, once again, assaulted as they tried to peaceably march.

Chad and Scott did find, however, at least one sign of gay life in Moscow:

Chad finds Sex and the City. In America, Carrie Bradshaw wears pink. In Russia, she wears (naturally) red.
